  What words has the WT redefined?

  these days, virtually every public talk speaker thinks it's interesting and intellectual to include a dictionary definition of some word.

  often the word is in common use and needs no explanation, such as 'exercise', or 'knowledge', or whatever.. now contrast that to all of the words that the wt has it's own meaning for, and referencing a dictionary for the common understanding of it would be viewed unfavourably.. words like 'generation' or 'men' (as in jesus is mediator between god and 'men' - 1tim 2:5-6).. what words have the wt redefined that you know about?

  - i'd like to compile a list if possible.. splash.

  The biggest redefinition they've managed to pull off in the minds of the loyal:

  Truth

  Beat me to the punch. Especially when their 'truth' is in constant need of correction.

  IS Science Absolute Truth

  if we have faith in science and scientific claims about the universe, origins of life etc.

  is that absolute truth.

  if so then if they declare that god exists with evidence then do all those who believe in science then believe in god or a creator.

  Your final WTF? Moment!

  it was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.

  i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.

  i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

  The final straw for me was during a CO's talk. He was relating an experience from a shepherding call. The brother he was visiting was strugging spiritually due to multiple personal problems he was enduring. He told the CO that he couldn't wait for the new system to get here so he didn't have to deal with all of the problems he was facing. The CO's response: "What makes you think you'll be in the new system?"

  I shouldn't have been stunned by the utter lack of empathy, but somehow I was. That was it for me.

  i work at a hotel, and our hotel literally sold out in two days.

  you would think that the end of the world was coming how they were calling for hotel rooms.

  Birthday celebration/participation

  my wife is considering to let our kids participate, maybe even celebrate their own birthdays.

  she says what can be so bad about just giving a little kid (who doesn't yet understand the bible) a day full of joy and happiness?

  she herself actually delayed her own baptism as a teenager in order to celebrate one more birthday.

  For the most part it's considered a no-no. Your wife will probably get a pass, however, given that you aren't a JW, and as the father, you should reasonably be given some say in whether or not your child celebrates his birthday. They can't do anything to you about it, can they?

  the other night, the elder was getting us ready for our convention.

  as i sat there, i was thinking, 'do you even listen to yourself?

  ' everything thing he said, said its going to suck.. bring a hat: its going to be sunny, prepared to get sunburned.. bring plenty of water: its going to be hot and sweaty.. parking is going to be bad: prepare to walk a mile to the site.. bring a fm radio: its going to be echoy inside.. .

  I can think of better things to do on a weekend than walk around a JW convention with a camera. This guy really needs to take up golf, or fishing.
